The one that started it all—the first camera produced by Nippon Kogaku and it bore the name Nikon. Production on the original Nikon I began in March 1948, after undergoing years of development and testing. The camera sported a 5cm fixed lens on a collapsible mount, and produced uniquely sized 24 x 32mm frames. Only about 400 Nikon I’s were produced, making them extremely rare collector’s items today. This ambitious endeavor would ultimately put Nippon Kogaku on a course into irreversible technological greatness.
